Roberto Martinez has ruled Mousa Dembele out of Belgium’s two matches during the international break.

Despite missing Spurs’ clash with Manchester City on Sunday, the midfielder was included in Belgium’s squad to face both Bosnia Herzegovina and Gibraltar in their Group H World Cup qualifiers.

Dembele, 28, was suspended for Tottenham’s first four games of the season before picking up an injury against Sunderland in September and has made only two appearances for the Londoners all season.

“Mousa will not recover in time,” Martinez told Belgian newspaper Het Laaste Nieuws. “He will miss the two games.”

Tottenham fans will now be hoping that Dembele can recover in time to face West Brom at the Hawthorns after the international break.

The former Fulham star had become an integral component to Mauricio Pochettino’s side before his injury at White Hart Lane.

Dembele has featured 77 times under the Argentine boss, scoring five goals and providing two assists in that time.

Tottenham have now picked up 17 points from their opening seven matches this season.

The north London club finished the weekend’s action in second place in the league and have found the form that made them serious title contenders last season.

In other Tottenham news, Harry Redknapp admitted he discovered his players bet on their own matches, in contravention of Football Association rules – and Spurs fans took to Twitter.
