Rafa Benitez has predicted Newcastle fans will make the St James’ Park atmosphere even more special than usual on Saturday for the first home league match of the season against Huddersfield.

The club are holding a Black and White Day, an initiative by fan group Gallowgate Flags, on Saturday as part of a process of improving the atmosphere.

Benitez issued a thank you to everyone involved with the day, and said he had high hopes for the Championship clash.

“The atmosphere that the fans create already is amazing, but for our fans to organise something like this shows the huge passion of the Geordies to support their team,” Benitez said, via The Chronicle.

“I know it will make the noise and the atmosphere in St James’ Park even more special than usual, and that will be fantastic.

“I would like to thank everyone involved with this project on behalf of myself and the players. It is things like this that can really make the difference for us over a long and challenging season ahead.”

After relegation last season Newcastle are aiming for instant promotion back to the Premier League, but got off to a bad start in their Championship campaign with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Fulham on Friday evening.

The Chronicle claim they are hoping to confirm the signing of Everton defender Brendan Galloway today, and also have plans to sign a striker and midfielder.

It is said that the club will stump up a £1million loan fee for Galloway and will also pay all his wages for the upcoming season.

In other Newcastle news, new captain Jamaal Lascelles claims Go-Karting can help the club achieve their promotion goal.
