Moussa Sissoko will not be involved in Newcastle’s Championship clash against Reading on Wednesday evening, it emerged on Tuesday afternoon.
Rafa Benitez has stated in the buildup to the clash that Sissoko hasn’t been involved in training for the north-east giants after picking up an ankle knock.
The France international has not yet returned to the Magpies squad this season and his absence will continue into their third Championship match.
“Sissoko not involved v Reading as he hasn’t trained due to an ankle knock,” revealed Benitez, as quoted by Chronicle chief sports writer Lee Ryder on his personal Twitter account.

This revelation follows claims from French newspaper L’Equipe, as cited by the Liverpool Echo, that negotiations will take place between Everton and Sissoko’s representatives in France in the “coming days”.
Sissoko has made it clear that he wants to leave Newcastle following their relegation from the Premier League and has played no part in the team’s opening two matches of the season, which resulted in back-to-back Championship defeats.
The Chronicle claim Newcastle slapped a huge £35million price tag on Sissoko in the wake of his display in the Euro 2016 final and he has attracted interest from big clubs across Europe.
Newcastle will host Reading at St James’ Park on Wednesday evening, as they look to secure their first points of the season.
In other Newcastle team news, Tim Krul has revealed that he hopes to return to full training in one week.
