Tottenham fans were dazzled on Twitter by Nabil Bentaleb on Thursday night as the on-loan midfielder starred for Schalke in the Europa League.
The Algeria international, who wore the number 10 shirt for the German giants, was integral to his side’s performance as they defeated ambitious French side Nice 1-0 with a late goal from Chelsea loanee Baba Rahman.
Bentaleb joined Schalke during the summer transfer window, after being told he could temporarily leave White Hart Lane despite signing a five-year deal last summer.
Football Insider revealed in July that manager Mauricio Pochettino was ready to sanction the sales of Bentaleb, Nacer Chadli, Clinton N’Jie, Alex Pritchard, Tom Carroll, Federico Fazio and Michael Vorm, with five of those leaving.
Fans were impressed with Bentaleb’s display on Twitter, with the midfielder making more than 100 touches throughout the match.
Here are a selection of Spurs fans’ tweets:
The 21-year-old played alongside former Spurs midfielder Benjamin Stambouli, as they made the perfect start to their Europa League campaign against Mario Balotelli’s new side.
Bentaleb made just five Spurs starts in an injury-hit campaign last season after falling behind Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama and Ryan Mason even when fit. He has not played for the club since February.
In other Tottenham news, fans have called on manager Mauricio Pochettino to make this first-team change.
