Newcastle are one of 12 teams fighting for the signature of Manchester United star James Wilson, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claim that interest in the United youngster is high after he was omitted from Manchester United’s pre-season trip to China.

It is said that Newcastle are among the teams who have enquired about the availability of Wilson along with the like of Fulham, West Brom and Hull.

Wilson is expected to be sent out on loan again this season after a disappointing spell at Brighton last term, when his 25 appearances yielded just five goals.

The Magpies have made five senior signings this summer, including striker Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace.

Wilson has found first-team opportunities hard to come by and now finds himself behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Will Keane in the pecking order at Old Trafford.

In other Newcastle news, the Magpies are close to sealing their sixth summer deal.
