Celtic are on the verge of completing the signing of Aston Villa star Scott Sinclair, according to a report.

The Daily Record claim that the 27-year-old is undergoing a medical in Glasgow on Friday ahead of a transfer to the Scottish champions.

The former Manchester City star has been a long term target of Celtic and Villa confirmed on Friday that they were weighing up an offer from the Hoops for Sinclair.

The deal was held up as Aston Villa refused to budge on their asking price and Celtic reportedly had a number of bids rejected.

The Bhoys have already completed deals for Moussa Dembele, Kolo Toure and Kristoffer Ajer this summer ahead of the new Scottish Premier League season.

Rodgers has been desperate to set up a third reunion with the former England under-21 international after working with him at Chelsea and Swansea.

The Villains decided to buy Sinclair for £2.5million last summer, and in 27 Premier League appearances, Sinclair scored two goals.

Celtic have won the Premiership title for the past five seasons without the presence of bitter rivals Rangers.

But, with the Glasgow club making a return to the top-tier Rodgers will need to produce his best to fend off any competition from the Ibrox club.

In other Celtic transfer news, winger Scott Allan has joined Championship side Rotherham on a season-long loan deal, it was announced on Thursday.
