Moussa Dembele capped his third Celtic appearance with an injury-time Champions League qualifier winner – and he was hailed as a hero by fans on Twitter.

The new striker signing scored against Astana, which clinched a 2-1 win on the night and put the Bhoys through to the play-off round with a 3-2 win on aggregate.

The former Fulham starlet couldn’t have hoped for a better way to bag his first goal for the Scotland giants with the young prospect winning a penalty in injury time and then stepping up coolly to give the Hoops a win in injury time at Celtic Park.

Rodgers put the 20-year-old on at the 75th minute mark for James Forrest and the northern irishman would have been delighted with the impact of the young Frenchman.

Celtic drew the first-leg against Astana 1-1 with a goal from Leigh Griffiths and it looked to be heading for another 1-1 draw with extra-time and penalties coming up before Dembele’s goal.

Fans of the Hoops were overjoyed with the youngster’s impact and took to Twitter to congratulate the man himself, while one fan even compared the value of the goal to Dembele’s ex-Fulham team-mate Ross McCormack.

The young striker scored 19 goals in 64 appearances during his time at Fulham and Rodgers will be hoping that Wednesday night’s goal is the first of many as he aims to win next season’s Scottish Premiership ahead of city-rivals Rangers next season.

The Hoops will now go into Friday’s play-off draw and the Scottish giants will be keen to go one step further than their performance in the competition last year, which saw them lose 4-3 on aggregate to Swedish side Malmo at the same stage.

In other Celtic team news, Brendan Rodgers has claimed Leigh Griffiths is worth £15million and shares similar attributes with Luis Suarez.
