Joey Barton will return to full-time training with Rangers following the conclusion of his disciplinary procedure – and Celtic fans on Twitter have laughed at his return.

The 34-year-old midfielder had not featured for the Ibrox side since a training ground bust up with team mate Andy Halliday.

However, according to Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, the controversial midfielder is set to make a return to Mark Warburton’s side, as reported on his personal Twitter account.

Many supporters on Twitter stated that their Old Firm rivals were unable to pay out his contract, therefore, they had no choice but to bring him back.

While others found it a coincidence that the controversial midfielder returns to action, on the same day teammate Niko Kranjcar suffers a season-ending injury.

Additionally, there were some fans, who provided strong views on Barton by stating that he is irrelevant and at the age of 34, his career is finished.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The Gers are currently second in the Scottish Premiership and sit nine points behind the Hoops, playing a game more.

Rangers are currently in good form having suffered just one defeat in October in the Scottish League Cup semi-final against Celtic.

They won their most recent match 3-0 against Kilmarnock and will travel to Ross County on Saturday, who are second from bottom in the table.

In other Rangers team news, supporters react on Twitter as Niko Kranjcar is out for the rest of the season.
