Joey Barton has mocked the appearance of Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers – and Hoops fans weren’t happy with the comments from their fierce rivals’ midfielder.
The Rangers man claimed that Rodgers was going through a mid-life crisis, while making a joke about the manager’s tan and teeth.
Barton spoke on Wednesday morning as he teased Rodgers about his pedicured look.
“I’ve not managed to run into him [in Glasgow] yet,” Barton told talkSPORT’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show. “The places he goes and the places I go probably differ, y’know, with the tan and the teeth and all that.
“They’re not the kind of establishments I rock up at, I’m not having a mid-life crisis.”
Celtic fans were out to defend their manager on Twitter, while some have claimed that the 33-year-old is obsessed with their club.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Barton talking about Guardiola being overrated stinks of irony. His comments on Brendan stink of jealousy because Celtic didn't want him.

Joey Barton now talking about Celtic and our manager. If it's not him it's Dave King talking about Celtic. The jealousy is ripping out them.

Rangers were promoted to the Scottish Premiership and face Celtic in September in the league for the first time in four years, with many looking to the battle between Barton and The Hoops captain Scott Brown in the middle of the park as a key match-up.
It is not the first time Barton has made comments about Rangers’ rivals, and following their embarrassing 1-0 loss to Gibraltar minnows Lincoln Red Imps earlier this summer he took to Twitter to share his emotions.
Former Manchester City midfielder Barton tweeted a series of emojis at full-time of that match that revealed he was crying with laughter at the Celtic performance.

The Ibrox side have had a mixed start to the Scottish Premiership season, being held 1-1 by Hamilton in their season opener before a Kenny Miller strike saw them beat Dundee United 2-1 on Saturday.
In other Celtic transfer news, Rodgers has outlined his ambitions for the Bhoys Champions League campaign this season.
