Celtic fans reacted with mixed emotions on Twitter after Moussa Dembele was axed from the starting XI to face Hamilton in order to make way for Leigh Griffiths.

The Saturday lunch-time clash saw Griffiths return to his role as a lone striker while star man Dembele was dropped to the bench, which created a degree controversy on social media.

Dembele has failed to score in his last six games and has scored just once in his last 10 games in all competitions for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

His last goal came against Aberdeen in the 3-0 victory in the Scottish League Cup final last month and he has been criticised for his performances in recent games due to an apparent goal drought.

Dembele is popular among fans and is considered to be one of the club’s best players but Griffiths is also well-liked by supporters so there was a positive response to the Scot’s selection in the starting line-up.

Here is a selection of the messages on Twitter:

Rodgers has tried to play the two strikers together in an attacking pair but the duo are much more effective playing in a lone striker role.

It will be Griffiths’ 24th appearance and ninth league start against Hamilton this season and he has already netted 12 goals in all competitions throughout the 2016-17 campaign.
