Celtic want to sign Fankaty Dabo on loan from Chelsea, according to a report.

The promising right-back has been earmarked as a future starter for the London club, but Brendan Rodgers is hopeful he can tempt Dabo from his former club with the promise of Champions League football next season.

The Sun claim Rodgers has already asked Chelsea if a loan deal for Dabo would be possible and the Celtic boss believes he can offer the defender more first-team opportunities as well as minutes in Europe.

Dabo is yet to make his senior debut for Chelsea, but is the captain of the Blues’ all conquering Under-21s Premier League side.

The 20-year-old was part of 2014 FA Youth Cup team and was in the Under-21 Premier League winners squad in the same year.

Rodgers has an excellent relationship with Chelsea and is well acquainted with their youth set-up after spending four years as their head youth coach.

Celtic begin their Champions League campaign in July before their domestic season gets underway and Rodgers is on the look-out for players that will add the necessary quality to make it through the qualifying stages, as long as they are available for the right price.

In other Celtic news, Chris Sutton thinks the Hoops manager will not be on the same wave length as the club’s hierarchy when it comes to transfers.
