Celtic are preparing a third bid for Scott Sinclair, according to reports.

The Telegraph claim that Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo is looking to offload at least four players this summer in an effort to trim his squad, and Sinclair could be one of those leaving the club.

The report says that Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers is preparing an improved offer of £3million in order to secure his second high profile signing in the current transfer window.

Villa have turned down two bids from Celtic for the 27-year-old but are expecting a third approach later this week.

The Northern Irish manager has already worked with Sinclair at Chelsea during his stint at Stamford Bridge as a youth-team coach.

Since his move to Manchester City, the England Under-21 international’s career has taken a turn for the worse. The winger made just two starts in three years at The Etihad, with subsequent loan moves to West Brom and Aston Villa materialising.

The Villains decided to buy Sinclair for £2.5million last summer, and in 27 Premier League appearances, Sinclair scored two goals.

Despite his poor form, Di Matteo is looking to recoup the same price that the Midlands club paid for him last summer and is under no pressure to sell his versatile forward who still has two three years remaining on his contract at Villa Park.

Rodgers has made two signings so far, with Fulham’s Moussa Dembele and Norwegian centre-back joining The Hoops’ pursuit of a 48th league title.

In other Celtic news, Bhoys defender Efe Ambrose says he has no plans to leave the club despite rumours that he is surplus to requirements.
