Cesc Fabregas has named three Tottenham players in his Premier League team of the season.

Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld all feature in the Chelsea’s midfielder’s best X1 to grace the English top flight in 2015/16.

Leicester players also dominate the selection of the former Arsenal and Barcelona star, with in-form quartet Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy, N’Golo Kante and Robert Huth chosen.

Fabregas named his team when he was a guest alongside regular pundit Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football programme.

Asked to name his star of the season, Fabregas said: “I would have to go for Mahrez because he makes things happen for Leicester throughout the whole season. You can speak about Kane and Vardy and so many players.

“For Leicester, what they’re doing and the way they’re doing, it has to be a talented player like him. In my team, always.”

Asked if his Chelsea team-mates would be annoyed that they had missed out in Fabregas’ selection, the midfielder delivered a blunt assessment of what has been a wretched campaign for the Premier League champions.

“Listen, we have to be honest. None of us deserves to be there, so I’m sure they will not be bothered,” Fabregas told Monday Night Football. “I believe Willian has been the most consistent [Chelsea player]. Zouma was having a good season until unfortunately he got injured.”

Fabregas’ team of the season: De Gea; Bellerin, Alderweireld, Huth, Bertrand; Mahrez, Alli, Kante, Payet; Vardy, Kane.
