Former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam has hit out on Twitter at an article claiming he was the slowest player in the Premier League.

The Daily Record put together a piece showing the top 20 slowest footballers in the English top flight and Adam was placed at number one.

After tweeting a link to the story and announcing the slowest player was a Scot, Adam replied on his personal Twitter and questioned the publication on how they were able to come to such a conclusion.

The piece uses Opta stats to track the top speed of every player in the league, excluding goal-keepers to come up with the top 20 slowest stars.

The shortlist, led by Adam, also includes stars such as Ilkay Gundogan, Memphis Depay, Santi Cazorla, Cesc Fabregas and Olivier Giroud.

To be among such prestigious company should come as a relief for Adam but the former Red midfielder was still not very impressed.

The 30 year-old made 37 total appearances for Liverpool after joining them for £9 million in the summer of 2011 but he failed to make much of an impact at Anfield.

Adam enjoyed a successful career with Blackpool, where he first made a name for himself in the Premier League and has since moved on to join Stoke after spending just one season with Liverpool.

In other Liverpool news, a brilliant image of James Milner playing for Leeds has emerged on Twitter.
