Charlie Nicholas believes that Leeds will beat Blackburn on Tuesday evening with the help of Chris Wood, who the Sky Sports pundit has picked out as the club’s “main threat.”

The Yorkshire giants host the Lancashire side at Elland Road in the EFL Cup third-round in the 7.45pm kick off.

Wood, 24, has scored five goals in nine appearances for Garry Monk’s side this season, which includes two goals in his last two appearances.

They have won their last two matches, which includes a 2-1 victory over Blackburn after a slow start to their Championship campaign.

Blackburn, who are now managed by Owen Coyle, have also made a slow start to the season and currently sit in 23rd place with five points from eight games.

Sky Sports pundit Nicholas has backed Monk’s side to progress and win the match 2-0.

“Blackburn finally got a result at the weekend but Owen Coyle is under pressure already and it looks like a real struggle for them this season,” wrote Nicholas in his Sky Sports column.

“Garry Monk looked close to the end but suddenly they’ve got a couple of results and people are starting to believe again. It feels like they are improving, with Pablo Hernandez providing the creativity behind their main threat Chris Wood.”

Leeds ground their way to a 1-0 victory over League Two side Luton in the previous round.

Blackburn also battled their way to victory over a League Two club with a 4-3 win over Steve Davis’ Crew side.

Monk will be keen to keep the winning momentum going and will be looking to claim another victory over the struggling Lancashire side.
