Charlie Nicholas believes Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana will be the dangerman to Scotland in their World Cup qualifying clash against England at Wembley.

Sky Sports pundit Nicholas, who represented the Scots on 20 occasions, has backed Gareth Southgate’s men to win the fixture 3-1 on Friday night.

Lallana, who has been in fine form for his club this season will be hoping to transcend those attacking displays onto the international stage.

Former Arsenal striker Nicholas has provided his thoughts on football’s oldest rivalry as he pointed out the two main threats for Gordon Strachan’s side.

“Everyone is saying England aren’t very good but they are good, they’re just not a great side,” Nicholas wrote in his Sky Sports column. “Adam Lallana and Raheem Sterling are the two that concern me the most as a Scot. Sterling is the player who can really open us up with his pace.

“I do expect England to win. I’m a realistic sort of guy and in my mind I expect England to win this by at least two goals.”

Lallana has made 27 appearances on the international stage, where he has scored one goal and provided three assists.

He will be hoping for a starting place against the Scots, with England leading the group on seven points, three ahead of their opponents who are fourth after three games.

In other Liverpool team news, Arsenal legend Martin Keown has backed this fringe player to start performing for the Reds.
