Chelsea will be without senior pair John Terry and John Obi Mikel against Tottenham on Saturday, it was confirmed on Friday afternoon.

The Blues captain Terry has only just returned from a spell out, but is now set for another spell on the sidelines with a muscular injury.

Midfielder Mikel is also suffering with a muscular injury and is yet to make a single appearance in the first-team this season.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has confirmed that the pair will miss the club’s upcoming league match against Spurs, as cited by the club’s official Twitter account.

Chelsea have won their last six league matches without conceding and risen to the the top of the table.

Conte’s has settled on the trio of David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta in a three-man defence, with Terry restricted to the bench during the club’s recent winning run.

The 35-year-old remains a crucial part of the club and will be confident of forcing his way back into the starting XI, with youngster Kurt Zouma also pushing for a centre-back spot.

Terry was unlikely to feature against Spurs from the start as Conte is enjoying great success with his current defensive set-up, but his experience during a derby match could have been crucial.

Mikel, 29, is yet to impress Antonio Conte this season since he was appointed the manager at Stamford Bridge in the summer.

The defensive midfielder is currently behind the likes of N’Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas and Nathaniel Chalobah in the pecking order.

In other Chelsea team news, Diego Costa and Harry Kane are both omitted in a combined XI with Tottenham players during the Premier League era.
