Manchester United dropped more points in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against West Ham – and Chelsea fans reacted with delight on Twitter.
United slipped 11 points behind Antonio Conte’s side, who maintained their place at the Premier League summit with a 2-1 win against Tottenham on Saturday.
It was the fifth draw in seven league matches from Jose Mourinho’s team, who ended the weekend in sixth in the division.
In a hard-fought encounter at Old Trafford on Sunday Zlatan Ibrahimovic levelled the scores after 21 minutes following Diafra Sakoh’s second-minute opener but United were unable to secure the win that would have narrowed the gap on the pacesetters.
The tally of 20 points from their opening 13 league fixtures is United’s worst start to a season since the 1989-90 campaign.
Chelsea fans reacted with glee at the lead that Conte’s side have built up over a club who were regarded as one of the title favourites at the start of the season.
However, there was some sympathy for former Blues manager and current United boss Jose Mourinho, who guided Chelsea to three league titles in two separate spells at the club.
