Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel has claimed West Ham play like an away team at the London Stadium because they are so uncomfortable.
The 29 year-old made the claim ahead of West Ham’s clash against Chelsea in the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening at their new ground.
West Ham played their first game away from Upton Park on 15th August against Wednesday night’s opponents and suffered a 2-1 defeat and Mikel is confident his side can deliver similar disappointment.
“West Ham’s new ground is very good but I think it’s why they have suffered in the league,” Mikel told the Evening Standard.
“It is a big ground, a good pitch and I think clubs go there to express themselves. In a way, every team that goes there feels that both teams are playing away from home.
“West Ham knew how to play on that surface [Boleyn Ground] they were used to it.”
The Hammers have struggled so far this season and currently sit in 15th position in the Premier League, as their star player, Dimitri Payet is still trying to regain top form.
Just two victories have been picked up at the London Stadium with West Ham clinching late 1-0 wins against Bournemouth and Sunderland.
It will be the second time Chelsea have traveled to the London Stadium this season, and the Blues hope to make it four wins out of six against the Hammers.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers are lining up a £1.5 million bid for this former rival club youngster.
