Diego Costa is set to be fit for Chelsea’s showdown against Liverpool on Saturday in a major boost to under-fire Jose Mourinho, Football Insider sources understand.
Costa was sent to hospital for x-rays after damaging ribs on Tuesday when the holders were knocked out of the League Cup by Stoke and also underwent further scans at the club’s Cobham headquarters.
It is understood that the Spain international has suffered only bruising to his side and should be fit to face Jurgen Klopp’s visiting team at Saturday lunchtime.
Costa’s likely availability is a boost to Mourinho’s team, who have lost half of their 10 Premier League matches and languish in 15th in the table.
The champions are in desperate need of wins to get back into contention for a top-four place and there is other encouraging Chelsea news on the injury front.
Cesc Fàbregas should be fit after missing the game at the Britannia Stadium with a knock. Nemanja Matic returns from a one-match suspension but Branislav Ivanovic is still struggling with a hamstring complaint.
