Jose Mourinho wants to add two more signings to his Chelsea squad before the transfer window closes next week, Football Insider sources understand.
The Stamford Bridge manager is targeting Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba and Everton defender John Stones in a stunning double swoop that could cost £100million.
Chelsea had a £54.4million bid for Pogba rejected by Juventus last week and are prepared to make another offer for the highly-rated 22-year-old.
Mourinho also remains in pursuit of Stones despite Everton manager Roberto Martinez maintaining his stance that the England international will not be sold.
Chelsea have made three bids for Stones and are expected to return with an improved offer of £35million for the centre-back this week.
Football Insider understands there is confidence at Stamford Bridge that Stones can be enticed from Goodison Park before the transfer window closes at 6pm on Tuesday of next week.
The defender is believed to be keen to make the move to west London and Chelsea are expected to pursue him until the deadline.
The pursuit of Pogba is considered less likely to be successful, as there is no agreement in place with the player himself and Juventus are not keen on selling their prize asset without having the time to secure a replacement.
Nonetheless, the late Chelsea signings push demonstrates how far Roman Abramovich is willing to go to back Mourinho in the transfer market.
The Premier League champions secured Pedro in a sensational £21.2million deal last week to hijack his proposed move to Manchester United, to follow the signings of Baba Rahman, Asmir Begovic and Radamel Falcao earlier in the summer.
