Marcus Alonso claims Chelsea have an advantage when they take on Tottenham this Saturday because Spurs have an important Champions League match during the week.
The Blues’ wing-back believes his side can benefit from having a longer recovery whereas Spurs risk injury or tiredness as they have to face AS Monaco on Tuesday.
Chelsea have won six straight Premier League fixtures and they face a tough test against Tottenham, who remain the only unbeaten team in England.
Alonso admitted it would be a landmark triumph for Chelsea if they were able to beat their rivals and explained why his side can go into the match with confidence.
“Well, [Tottenham] in three days you can recover, very well, but maybe it can be an advantage for us. We have to rest now and then start getting ready for Saturday,” Alonso said, as quoted by the Sun.
“It is going to be a massive three points for us.”
Alonso has featured regularly for Chelsea on the left-hand side in a new-look 3-4-3 formation which has brought them a lot of success.
Since losing 3-0 against Arsenal last month, Chelsea have not conceded a single goal in the Premier League and are now top of the table following their 1-0 victory against Middlesbrough on Saturday.
The Spaniard has made seven league appearances for Chelsea since joining in the summer from Fiorentina and will be expected to start against Tottenham.
Spurs have not beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge since 1990.
