Chelsea are keeping close tabs on in-form Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez, Football Insider sources understand.
Mahrez has begun the season in sensational form for Claudio Ranieri’s team, scoring seven Premier League goals as well as delivering five assists in the competition.
He has attracted attention from a string of elite clubs, with France Football reporting that Manchester United have made an approach for him.
Sources have told Football Insider that Chelsea are also set to closely monitor the 24-year-old Algeria international.
The Blues, who have bought and sold a string of wide players in recent seasons, are looking to off-load Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado in January. He is on loan at Juventus after failing to impress at Stamford Bridge since joining from Fiorentina last season.
Mahrez could be available at around £10million. He joined Leicester for £350,000 from Le Havre in January 2014 and has proved to be a bargain, particularly with his excellent displays this season in Ranieri’s swashbuckling team.
The winger helped Leicester move up to third in the table with a 3-2 win at West Brom last Saturday. Mahrez scored two second-half goals as Ranieri’s side came from behind to extend their unbeaten on the road in the Premier League.
“I am really enjoying playing in this team,” Mahrez said afterwards. “We are playing attacking football, not staying behind the ball and that’s the mark of the team. We have to keep going like this. Everyone is happy – the team, the players and the city.”
