Chris Sutton has slammed Moussa Sissoko by stating Tottenham have “wasted a lot of money” on the France international.

Spurs paid Championship side Newcastle £30million for his services in the summer, but the versatile attacker has failed to live up to his price tag.

The 27-year-old, who was highly criticised for his performances during Newcastle’s relegation last season, has played ten games in all competitions this term, failing to score a goal or provide an assist.

Mauricio Pochettino questioned his player by stating that he “expected more” from the Frenchman, who has not featured for Spurs in their last two Premier League games.

Celtic legend Sutton was also critical of the former Toulouse player as he explained why he was baffled by the big summer signing.

“Sissoko was a bad buy and Pochettino is questioning him now,” Sutton told the Monday night club on BBC Radio 5 Live. “That was a really odd move I think to virtually everybody in the country. Looking from the outside thinking why on earth have they signed Sissoko?

“He downed tools [with Newcastle] last season. How can you trust him? That’s a massive disappointment. A lot of money wasted.”

Sissoko has started four out of six Premier League games this season and has not featured for his side since their Champions League exit against Monaco where he made a brief 16 minute appearance.

Additionally, he also played 39 games in all competitions for Newcastle last season, scoring one goal and assisting eight.

Nonetheless, he was still selected by his home country for Euro 2016, where he played six encounters, including starting the final in Paris. He failed to score or assist a single goal during the whole competition.
