Stan Collymore and Jamie Carragher have given scathing assessments of Mario Balotelli’s transfer to Nice on Twitter.

Liverpool confirmed on their website that the 26-year-old forward has joined French club Nice in a permanent deal. The striker left on a free transfer.

Baloteli has been frozen out by current Reds manager Jurgen Klopp and has been training with the youth team this summer.

Pundit and ex-Liverpool star Collymore posted on his personal Twitter account that Balotelli should “retire already”.

Sky Sports pundit and former Reds defender Carragher has labelled his free transfer as “still paying over the odds” on his personal Twitter account.

The severe reactions from the Liverpool pair show the sort of impression Balotelli made on the club and its supporters during his stay at Anfield.

His move to France will give him his first experience of club football outside of either England or Italy.

Balotelli made just 28 appearances during his Liverpool career and scored four goals, with the Merseyside club loaning the striker to AC Milan last season.

The Italian forward enjoyed a prolific spell at Manchester City earlier in his career, scoring 30 goals in 80 appearances, however a series of incidents off the pitch earned him a bad reputation.

Klopp is trusting in current forwards Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino to lead his attack this season.

In other Liverpool transfer news, the club’s defender has agreed a move away from Anfield.
