Stan Collymore has labelled Mesut Ozil “overrated” and he doesn’t believe the Arsenal player has the ability to win difficult games on his own.

Arsene Wenger’s side missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League, after their goalless draw against Middlesbrough at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.

Playmaker Ozil played the full 90 minutes but failed to inspire the Gunners to their seventh consecutive league win against the newly-promoted side.

Broadcaster Collymore questioned the German international for not being able to deliver the goods at difficult times, despite being a hugely talented player.

“I think he is a world class talent,” Collymore told 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live. “But does he have the personality in games like today to puff his chest out, Maradona style and say I’m going to win the game alone.

“I don’t think he does.”

World Cup-winner Ozil has scored three goals in seven league appearances this term, but is yet to supply an assist.

Known for his precise passing, Ozil has only provide one assist in ten Champions League and Premier League games this season.

Wenger’s side are top of the league table with 20 points from their nine games, but they could be leapfrogged by Manchester City who host Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

In other Arsenal team news, manager Arsene Wenger has provided an incredible excuse for his side’s goalless draw against Middlesbrough.
