Petr Cech will be rested from the Arsenal team for Saturday’s FA Cup clash against Hull, Arsene Wenger has revealed.
The Gunners No1 will make way for his deputy David Ospina for the fifth-round tie as Wenger keeps him fresh for next week’s landmark fixtures against Barcelona and Manchester United.
Speaking at his media briefing on Friday morning, the Arsenal manager hinted that Cech will not be in the matchday squad at all.
“Ospina plays in the FA Cup. Cech potentially won’t be involved tomorrow,” Wenger said.
Cech has started all 26 of Arsenal’s Premier League matches this season but Ospina was in goal for the fourth-round win over Burnley.
The Colombian was unavailable for the third-round victory over Sunderland, when Cech started and rookie Matt Macey was on the substitute’s bench.
In other Arsenal team news, Wenger revealed that January signing Mohamed Elneny is in contention to make his second appearance for the club on Saturday.
“Elneny has a good chance to play tomorrow,” the manager said. “He is ready and is fighting for a regular place.”
