Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez will undergo a medical at Fiorentina on Wednesday, the Italian club confirmed.

The Serie A outfit announced on their official website on Tuesday night they had agreed to sign Sanchez from Villa on a season-long loan.

The 30-year-old is set to fly out to Italy on Wednesday to complete a medical and finalise the terms of a contract.

Here is Fiorentina confirming the news on their official Twitter account.

Manager Roberto Di Matteo revealed last Friday that the Italian giants were interested in his signature as his time at Villa Park comes to a temporary end following his move in 2014.

The 30-year-old was a Paul Lambert signing from Spanish side Elche for a fee of £5million, but many Villa fans feel he did not live up to expectations.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that a season-long loan deal is on the cards for Sanchez with Fiorentina having an obligation to buying him permanently next summer, although that has not been confirmed by either club.

The 30-year-old will leave the club having made 48 appearances in two years with his Villa contract set to expire in 2018.

Sanchez will follow fellow midfielders Carlos Gil, and Idrissa Gueye, including goalkeeper Brad Guzan and defender Ciaran Clark who have left the club this summer either on a permanent basis or on loan.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, the club’s owner revealed on his personal Twitter account why they have not tied up a £10 million deal for this striker.
