Celtic teenager Anthony Ralston has signed a new three-year contract with the club, it was announced on Monday night.

The 17-year-old defender put pen to paper on a new deal at Celtic Park after agreeing terms with the Scottish champions.

It comes just 12 months after the Scottish right-back signed a two-year deal with the club.

Ralston will be looking to push his way into the first-team plans of new manager Brendan Rodgers after an impressive spell on loan at Queens Park last season before he was recalled by Ronny Deila in January.

The teenager has been at the club since the age of eight and has worked his way up through the youth ranks at the Academy to become one of the brightest prospects in the development side.

The club took to Twitter on Monday to reveal their delight at the youngster penning a new Celtic deal.

Ralston has yet to make his first-team bow but joined the senior squad for the trophy celebrations on the final day of the season as the Hoops rounded off five-in-a-row with a stunning 7-0 victory over Motherwell.

“I’m over the moon,” he said, as quoted by the Celtic website. “I was here only last year signing a two year contract so to be brought in a year into that to sign a three-year deal is a big achievement. I’m very proud.

“I’ve been a Celtic fan all my life as well so on a day like this, to sign a big contract for the club I’ve supported, makes me very proud and my family, who were all with me, are too. I’m really happy.

“I can’t put it into words other than to say it has been unbelievable. From being such a young age coming to the club and working my way up I could never imagine back then that I’d be sitting here at 17 saying that I’d made my debut and signed a three year contract, especially as a fan.”

Ralston is highly thought of by the club’s academy staff and his performances last season also caught the eye of Deila and his coaching team, who asked the youngster to join the senior squad training sessions.

In other Celtic news, the club are reportedly closing in on the signing of a 23-year-old from Liverpool.
