Liam Bridcutt has been omitted from the Leeds team for their clash against Cardiff on Saturday.

The Elland Road skipper is not named in the matchday squad for the lunchtime showdown at the Cardiff City Stadium after sustaining an injury in the midweek win over Blackburn.

Manager Garry Monk had claimed on Thursday that he was “very hopeful” that midfield anchorman Bridcutt would recover to take his place in the starting XI against the Welsh side.

But he misses out and Ronaldo Vieira has been selected ahead of fellow youngster Kalvin Phillips to partner Eunan O’Kane in central midfield.

It is one of two changes from the Leeds side that stopped the rot with a 2-1 in at Elland Road on Tuesday, with Chris Wood replacing Marcus Antonsson as the spearhead of the attack.

Monk’s team are 17th in the table after taking just seven points from their opening seven league matches, while the Welsh side are placed in 22nd.

In other Leeds team news, Rob Green has named the only other streetwise player in the team.
