Roberto Firmino misses Liverpool’s Premier League showdown against Chelsea on Friday night.

The in-form Brazilian attacker has a minor groin injury and is not in the 18-man Merseysiders’ squad for the Stamford Bridge encounter.

Philippe Coutinho takes Firmino’s place in the team that hammered Leicester 4-1 last weekend, while fit-again Dejan Lovren replaces Lucas Leiva.

The centre-back, who missed out against Leicester after sustaining a badly-bruised eye in training, will partner Joel Matip in the heart of the defence.

Midfielder Emre Can is back in training after an ankle problem but is not yet match fit, and is once again not in the squad.

Can has started just one game for Liverpool this season, in the EFL Cup at Burton Albion, as well as a 20-minute substitute appearance in the 4-3 win against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.

The Merseysiders hammered Leicester with an eyecatching attacking display that has been a hallmark of their early season performances.

Friday’s clash at Stamford Bridge will provide a different sort of challenge for Klopp’s men as they take on one of the Premier League’s in-form teams.

Jordan Henderson and summer signing Georginio Wijnaldum are paired together in central midfield for the fifth consecutive league match even though neither is a natural anchorman.

In other Liverpool team news, a defender has signed a two-year contract.
