Garry Monk has chosen Chris Wood as his attacking spearhead ahead of £2million summer signing Marcus Antonsson for Leeds’ Championship opener against QPR on Sunday afternoon.

The Swedish striker would have hoped to have made his debut from the start in the former Swansea’s first competitive match, but will have to settle for a place on the bench.

Monk has elected to give four of his new signings their debuts from the off, with England international Rob Green, Swansea City loanees Matt Grimes and Kyle Bartley and League 2 Player of the Year Kemar Roofe all starting.

Youngster Ronaldo Vieira has also been handed an unlikely start, with midfield duo Kalvin Phillips and Alex Mowatt overlooked and instead handed a place on the bench.

Liam Cooper is not yet fit enough to start from the off, so club captain Sol Bamba will start alongside Kyle Bartley.

Gaetano berardi is deemed fit enough, while contract rebel Charlie Taylor has been selected despite handing in a transfer request earlier in the week.

Sporting Lisbon loanee Hadi Sacko will look to have an impact later in the game from the bench, but Spanish international Pablo Hernandez will miss out as he is not deemed match ready.

In other Leeds news, Premier League side West Ham are set to make a £5million offer for Leeds’ Player of the Year.
