Blackburn have signed left-back Steven Hendrie on a season-long loan from West Ham, it was announced on Tuesday.

The Championship outfit confirmed on their official club website that the Scotland Under-21 international has joined them from the Hammers.

The full-back has yet to feature for the Premier League side’s first team since joining from Hamilton in a £1million move last summer.

The 21-year-old had a loan spell at League One club Southend before it was cut short in February due to injury after making just five league appearances for the club.

Hendrie began his career at Hamilton, making his club debut at the age of 16.

The young Scotsman soon became a firs- team regular for Hamilton where he made over 100 appearances across all competitions for the side, including playing a star role in the team that won promotion from the Championship to the Scottish Premiership.

The youngster was linked with a move back to Scotland in March as Scottish champions Celtic reportedly monitored him but he stayed at the London club.

New Blackburn manager and fellow Scotsman Owen Coyle will be keen to see what Hendrie can bring to his side.

In other West Ham news, West Ham have had a £2.3million bid rejected for Besiktas midfielder Atiba Hutchinson.
