England’s ‘golden generation’ had some brilliant stars.
Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Michael Owen and Rio Ferdinand all spring to mind as legends who just didn’t cut the mustard for England.
There is however one star from that generation who can now be content with his career after Cristiano Ronaldo’s latest comments.
In an interview with Coach magazine, Ronaldo named Cole as his toughest opponent, saying:
“Over the years I had some great battles with Ashley Cole – he doesn’t give you a second to breathe.
“He was such a tenacious player, quick, tough in the tackle – when he was at his peak. You knew it would never be an easy game.”
What makes us laugh about this is that Ronny left England in 2009. What? So no one has got close to him in seven years?
Pretty damning indictment of the quality of La Liga defenders, eh?
He’s probably right though, he has been unstoppable.
