Danny Murphy believes that Tottenham’s Mousa Dembele is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
The 29-year-old has received several praises following his league performance against Arsenal on Sunday, when he helped his side maintain their unbeaten start in the league.
Spurs recorded a 1-1 away draw against their north London rivals in the Premier League and Dembele played a starring role in the result.
The midfielder earned his team a penalty in the second-half after bursting through the Arsenal defence and drawing a foul, with Harry Kane converting from the penalty spot.
Former Spurs player and current pundit Murphy claims that Dembele should be considered as one of the best in the division and claims he is a key asset in to the side.
“I think he deserves great credit for adapting his game and becoming not just one of Tottenham’s best midfielders, but one of the best midfielders in the Premier League,” Murphy said, as quoted by the club’s official website. “I thought last season he was absolutely outstanding and the stats for when he played and when he didn’t for Tottenham are just incredible. The difference in the results when he didn’t play was certainly not a coincidence in my view.”
Dembele earned a move to White Hart Lane in 2012 after an impressive spell with London rivals Fulham.
The Belgian international has made 166 appearances for Spurs since his arrival, scoring nine goals and supplying 10 assists.
He played a key role in the heart of the club’s midfield last season as they enjoyed their best ever finish in the Premier League in third, but does face tough opposition to stay in the side.
Dembele missed the beginning of the season through suspension and has returned to the starting XI alongside the impressive Victor Wanyama.
In other Tottenham news, Jan Vertonghen has given his verdict on the club’s switch of formation.
