Andre Wisdom is close to agreeing a £3million move from Liverpool to Celtic, according to a report.

New Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers has been assessing the possibility of a reunion with the Anfield academy graduate.

The Daily Mail now claim that an agreement between Celtic and Wisdom is close to being finalised after Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp decided the young defender is surplus to requirements.

Football Insider reported on Sunday that Rodgers is keen on Wisdom after missing out on fellow Liverpool full-back Joe Gomez.

It is said that the northern Irishman is ready to pay £3million for the versatile Wisdom, who can play at centre-back and both full-back positions.

Wisdom, 23, is contracted to Liverpool until 2019 but is likely to be sold this summer after loan spells at Norwich, West Brom and Derby.

The former England Under-21 international spent the recently completed domestic season on loan at Carrow Road, making 14 appearances in all competitions.

The Leeds-born defender has played 22 matches for Liverpool and is rated by Rodgers, who is reportedly confident that the defender can be key to a Scottish Premiership title bid.

The Hoops manager also admires Gomez, 19, who joined Liverpool from Charlton for £3.5m last year but has been hit by a knee injury and is unlikely to be sold by the Merseysiders.

In other Celtic news, a prolific striker has responded to links with the Scottish giants seven years after they baulked at paying £3million for him.
