Dean Ashton has graded Tottenham’s performance against Everton as an average result.
Spurs picked up their first point of the season with a 1-1 away draw at Goodison Park, courtesy of an equalising goal from Erik Lamela in the second-half.
Pundit Ashton gave Spurs a grade of C and told the Sky Sports website that it was a solid point away from home to start the season.
“Spurs really came into the game at Goodison in the second half,” the former England and West Ham striker said. “The addition of Vincent Janssen alongside Harry Kane really helped them to a solid point on the road.”
Everton’s Ross Barkley gave Everton a first-half lead as they dominated the opening 45 minutes but Spurs enjoyed much more of the play in the second period and secured a draw.
Mauricio Pochettino elected to keep his English core as Kane spearheaded the attack, alongside national team-mates Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker.
Kane was helped in the second-half by the club’s summer signing Janssen who scored 32 goals in 49 appearances for his former club AZ Alkmaar.
Spurs began the last campaign slowly with three consecutive draws against Stoke, Leicester and Everton, but still managed to mount a credible title bid against eventual champions Leicester.
Gary Lineker has predicted that Spurs will win the Premier League this season and they will need to improve on their opening day result.
In other Tottenham team news, their star has revealed that he was not fully fit against Everton.
