Roberto Di Matteo has stated there is always a mistake in the Aston Villa team following their 1-1 against Brentford on Wednesday night.

Villa conceded an 88th minute equaliser to left-back John Egan in midweek, the third consecutive home game where Di Matteo’s side have conceded after the 85th minute.

After playing four strikers against Dean Smith’s side, the Italian was asked whether he would consider playing a more defensive-minded starting XI.

“We are a team that can play forward,” said Di Matteo as quoted by the Birmingham Mail. “We are a team that can defend for many periods of the game as well. There’s a mistake somewhere always that we need to improve.

“I always have to have a look  at the players that are available as well.”

The Midlands side have got off to a shaky start with only seven points from their opening seven games and only one win to their name.

Villa have conceded goals in the 86th, 87th and 88th minute against Huddersfield, Nottingham Forest and Brentford respectively, much to the frustration of their Italian manager.

They now travel to Portman Road to take on Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich side, who sit ninth in the Championship table with eleven points.
