Controversial footballer and former Liverpool winger El Hadji Diouf has claimed former Reds captain Steven Gerrard is a jealous person, who never had talent.
Diouf moved to Liverpool from Lens in 2002 in a £10million deal after a successful World Cup with Senegal.
During his three-year stay at the club he played in 80 encounters scoring six goals.
He played in the same Liverpool side as Gerrard and the former African Footballer of the Year has claimed that Gerrard doesn’t like “men of character.”
“I told him not to go to Liverpool. It wasn’t made for him, that things couldn’t go well with Gerrard, who has never had his talent and then said negative things about him,” said Diouf to L’Equipe.
“Gerrard is a jealous man who doesn’t like men of character. Mario is a good person that you should listen to. He’s not a guy who’s going to cause problems in the dressing room.
“There are a lot of things that have been made up about him. People tell tales about him, but they’re often a load of rubbish.”
However, this isn’t the first time that the former Leeds man has taken a swipe at Gerrard.
“Gerrard was jealous of me back then (in 2002 when Diouf moved to Liverpool from Lens) as I had the world at my feet. There’s no one more selfish… he doesn’t care about anyone else,” said Diouf, in 2012 as quoted by the Daily Mail.
“Gerrard would rather Liverpool lost and he scored. The old Liverpool guys can’t stand him. I won’t even start with [Jamie] Carragher.”
Gerrard left Liverpool and England in 2015 to join MLS side LA Galaxy after 28 years at the club.
He won the League Cup, FA Cup, Champions League and Europa League while at Liverpool, but he ultimately came unstuck when it came to winning the league.
The Merseyside legend is currently in the MLS with LA Galaxy, where he’s featured in 16 appearances scoring three goals in the current season.
