Aston Villa midfielder Carles Gil has sealed a one-year loan deal to Spanish outfit Deportivo de La Coruña, the club confirmed on Friday afternoon.

The Championship side announced on their official Twitter account that the Spaniard will be making a return to Spain, 18 months after his switch from La Liga giants Valencia for a fee of £3.2 million.

Here is the Midlands outfit announcing Gil’s departure and his new club welcoming him to the fold:

The technically efficient midfielder joins a side that finished 15th in the recently concluded La Liga season.

The 23-year-old struggled for consistent game time at Villa Park with only 28 appearances to his name since his move in January 2015.

The Villa supporters will have mixed views on his departure as some feel he was one of a few players who can provide the creativity the club is severely lacking.

With only 27 goals scored last term, Villa struggled with form as they were relegated into the second tier of English football for the first time sine 1987.

Recently appointed manager Roberto Di Matteo had spoken about trimming his large squad as he prepares for the forthcoming Championship season.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, Roberto Di Matteo has received a firm response after he made a bid for a highly-sought Championship striker.
