Midfielder Ronaldo Vieira has signed a professional contract with Leeds, the club announced on Thursday afternoon.

The 17-year-old Academy star has penned a two-year deal which comes into effect on 1 July.

Vieira, who initially joined the Yorkshire giants on scholarship terms after arriving from York’s i2i Football Academy, has been a regular for Leeds’ youth teams this season.

He has made 13 appearances for the Under-21s and 25 appearances for the club’s Under-25s.

The Leeds website say the Guinea-Bissau-born central midfielder is one of the first of a number of young players set to extend their stays at the club this summer.

“I’m delighted, I’m over the moon with it,”Vieira, told the Leeds website after signing the deal at the club’s Thorp Arch headquarters on Thursday. “It’s been a great season for me and I’ve worked hard for it.

“I first found out just over a month ago. I got called into the office and I was offered a new two-year deal – I couldn’t stop smiling. It felt great.”
