Pontus Jansson was not among the Leeds players who gathered on the Anfield pitch following the team’s arrival at Liverpool on Tuesday evening, according to a reliable journalist.

Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay reported that there was “no sign” of the key Leeds defender, who has been a revelation since joining on loan in the summer.

Jansson missed Saturday’s 2-1 Championship win over Rotherham due a suspension incurred by five bookings.

He was expected to slot straight back into Garry Monk’s side for Tuesday night’s League Cup quarter-final clash and resume his impressive central defensive partnership with Kyle Bartley.

But Hay reported on his personal Twitter account that Jansson was set to miss out, although he did not specify why that was the case.

Hay, who was at Anfield to cover the match for his newspaper, is a reliable supplier of information about Leeds and is known for breaking news about the club and its players.

Jansson has been outstanding for Leeds since joining on a season-long loan from Italian club Torino.

He has established an instant rapport with supporters, who have been impressed by his commitment and desire in addition to his defensive qualities.

In other Leeds team news, the club are rumoured to be lining up this Championship striker.
