Eddie Gray believes Leeds will have the “momentum” with them on Sunday as he backed Garry Monk’s side to beat Newcastle at Elland Road.

The Yorkshire club are expected to have a sell-out crowd for the Championship clash against the league leaders.

Rafa Benitez’ side have won their last seven league fixtures, while Monk’s men beat promotion chasing Norwich in their last fixture to sit in a play-off spot after 16 games.

Despite the Magpies flying high in the league, former winger and manager Gray believes the Yorkshire club will come out on top.

“The good thing about the next game is that we’re playing the team who are top of the division. In general, everyone will be expecting Newcastle to win,” Gray told LUTV, as quoted by the Chronicle.

“I don’t expect Newcastle will win the game. I think we’ll win the game. I think we’ve got the momentum, and we’ll have the crowd.”

The Whites have 26 points to their name this term, while the Magpies are an impressive 11 points ahead of their rivals in the table.

Leeds will have a bumper crowd at the weekend, the first time in six years they have sold out their home allocation.

In other Leeds team news, Noel Whelan has suggested that this summer signing has been Garry Monk’s most consistent performers this season.
