Mohammed Elneny has been given the Premier League green light to make his Arsenal debut at Stoke on Sunday.

Arsene Wenger has revealed that the new midfielder signing, who was unveiled by the club on Thursday, has been registered in time for the trip to the Britannia Stadium.

“He’s available for Sunday,” said Wenger at his media briefing on Friday morning.

Premier League rules state that new signings must be registered by 12pm on the Friday before weekend matches.

Manager Arsene Wenger might decide that he is not ready to play in such a demanding fixture as Stoke after being holed up in France for a week while he awaited visa clearance.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday afternoon that Elneny had finally been granted a visa before flying to London on Wednesday to complete his protracted move to the club.

The Egyptian midfielder had already been successful in his work permit application but was waiting to be conferred with a visa by UK immigration.

Wenger is delighted to complete the signing of Elneny and is convinced that the 23-year-old has the qualities to be a significant addition to his squad.

“He’s a defensive midfielder who can contribute in an area that we are short,” Wenger said on Friday. “He is a promising player. I expect him to develop with us into a very strong player. He can defend and attack.”
