Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier was selected in the England line-up to face Slovenia on Tuesday evening – and Three Lions fans reacted on Twitter with disappointment to his name.
The 22-year-old midfielder made his way back into the national team squad with Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney dropping to the bench.
Jordan Henderson has been selected as the captain in Rooney’s absence, while Dier’s team-mate Danny Rose has replaced the injured Ryan Bertrand in the side.

However, England fans were unhappy on social media with the inclusion of Dier, with many of the belief that he wouldn’t bring any more to the side than Rooney.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Dier is starting not watching it anymore

So someone finally drops Rooney, then he picks Dier and Henderson.
Sweet Jesus.. that's not a midfield that's a baron wilderness of waste.

Dier has been a key figure for a Spurs side which finished in third place in the last campaign, while also starring for Mauricio Pochettino’s team as they currently sit in second.
He has made seven appearances for the north London club in the new campaign and his team have conceded just four goals with the defensive midfielder in the side.
England are currently top of their group F, winning both of their fixtures so far and they face Slovenia, who sit in third place with four points.
