Erik Sviatchenko believes defensive partner Kolo Toure will recover from his Celtic horror show against Borussia Mochengladbach on Wednesday night.

The 47-time Scottish Champions were disappointing against the Bundesliga outfit, losing 2-0 largely as a result of two horrendous mistakes from the Ivory Coast international.

However, Sviatchenko told the Daily Record that Toure will use his experience to overcome the lapses in concentration in time for Sunday’s Old Firm derby against Rangers.

“Kolo will recover,” Sviatchenko told the Daily Record. “He’s 35, it’s not the first time in his career he has made a mistake. It could have been another player, another game.

“Kolo knows what it takes and in other games he has saved us from conceding goals. We are all together in this, it’s not all on one person.”

Toure lost the ball in his own penalty area before Lars Stindl struck the opener midway through the first half, before Toure made a sloppy pass inside his own half allowing Andre Hahn to double Gladbach’s lead.

The Hoops were unable to overturn Toure’s mistakes, leaving them with it all to do if they want to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League from Group C.

Former Arsenal and Liverpool defender Toure is expected to feature in Sunday’s Betfred Cup semi-final against Rangers, as manager Brendan Rodgers eyes his first piece of silverware as Celtic manager.

A place in the final is up for grabs, as Aberdeen and Scottish minnows Morton do battle in Saturday’s other semi-final.

In other Celtic news, Andy Walker has made this prediction ahead of Sunday’s showdown.
