Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet insists he is prepared to battle with new recruits Loris Karius and Alex Manninger for the number one spot.
Manager Jurgen Klopp has recruited two new goalkeepers to his squad this summer and the Belgian’s starting place is now under question.
“I am used to the competition for places, it happened over the last couple of seasons and it had happened at the previous teams I was at,” he told the Mail.
“It is the same with the national team. If you want it, you have got to fight for it. You have got to take the challenge and ensure it gets the best out of you.”
Mignolet joined from Sunderland in 2013 and has made 149 appearances for the Merseyside club in all competitions.
The Belgian is known for being a good shot stopper but has made some well highlighted mistakes which have left fans questioning his number one status.
Manninger, who is expected to be Liverpool’s third choice goalkeeper this season, has hailed his new team-mate Karius as one of the best modern goalkeepers in Europe.
Karius joined the Merseyside club this summer for £4.7million and will wear the number one jersey vacated by Brad Jones.
The German signed for Mainz in 2012 from Manchester City and played 34 times in the Bundesliga in 2015-16, conceding 42 times as the Germans secured an impressive sixth place finish.
In other Liverpool team news, club legend Ronnie Whelan believes that they will qualify for the Champions League this season under Klopp.
