Everton target Jose Fonte has dropped a clear hint that he will not be leaving Southampton this summer.

The Saints skipper posted on Instagram message on Thursday that showed him in full club kit and holding the club badge accompanied by a message that he will “march on” at St Mary’s Stadium this season.

Fonte did not explicitly say he would be staying at Southampton but it is clear that the club have won their battle keep hold of the 32-year-old.

This comes after the Sun claimed that Ronald Koeman had targeted a £9million move for Fonte as he eyed a replacement for England international John Stones, who joined Manchester City earlier this week for £47.5million.

However, the Portuguese centre-back posted an Instagram message on Thursday evening celebrating his six and a half years at the south coast club and used the club’s slogan “we march on” with the telling adverb “together”.

“7 years of Passion, hard work, dedication and putting the team first,we was able to achieve success after success!!! Thank you for being there all the way#wemarchon together!!” said the Saints captain on the social media platform.

Southampton have also offered the Euro 2016 winner a new and improved contract in order to fend off any interest from their rivals.

Koeman, who moved to Merseyside in July from the Hampshire club has looked to add Premier League proven players to his squad and he has brought in Maarten Stekelenburg, Idrissa Gueye and Ashley Willams, while  Sky Sports revealed on Tuesday evening that the Merseysiders had settled a stunning £30million deal for winger Yannick Bolasie.

The Toffees will be hoping for European football under Koeman in the coming season, after two disappointing seasons under Roberto Martinez which resulted in his sacking.

In other Everton transfer news, Koeman has revealed that he is determined to keep duo Romelu Lukaku and Phil Jagielka at the club.
