Everton are braced for fresh interest from a European giant in striker Romelu Lukaku, according to a report.

The Independent claim French big hitters Paris Saint-Germain are the latest side to be planning a January move for the Belgium international.

It is said that Ronald Koeman and Everton are reluctant to part ways with their star man.

The former Southampton manager made it his mission during the summer to keep Lukaku on board at Goodison Park, despite the player expressing a desire for a new challenge.

However, as long as Lukaku continues to plunder goals, there will always be interest from Europe’s elite.

The 23-year-old has scored seven goals in nine league starts this season.

PSG find themselves third in Ligue 1 during the international break, three points behind leaders Nice, thanks largely to the efforts of lead goalscorer Edinson Cavani.

Cavani has 15 goals in as many games this season, but manager Unai Emery is still keen to add to his attacking options. The club lost both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ezequiel Lavezzi last season and didn’t replace them.

While Everton remain confident on staving off all interest, Koeman has already caused a rift with Toffees fans on Twitter after claiming that Lukaku could go on to play for Barcelona.

They weren’t best pleased at the manager’s lack of ambition for the club, suggesting that they were already a ‘big enough’ to keep hold of Lukaku.

“I think he can emulate Patrick Kluivert, who also rose to prominence at a young age and enjoyed a fantastic career,” Koeman told Dutch newspaper HLN.be. “He eventually played for Barcelona and I can see Lukaku doing the same.

“Everton should normally not be the end for him. Romelu will not have made the most of his career if he plays for Everton for the remainder of his career,” he added.

In other Everton news, The Toffees want to bring highly-coveted striker Ademola Lookman to the club in January.
