Tottenham have matched Everton’s £30million bid for Moussa Sissoko in a stunning deadline-day twist, according to a report.

Sky Sports claimed on their transfer centre blog on Wednesday (10.07pm) that Spurs have equalled the offer submitted by Everton for the Newcastle attacking midfielder earlier in the evening.

This comes after Sky Sports revealed on the blog (8:06pm) that Sissoko was on his way to Goodison Park to undergo a medical to complete a £30million transfer.

In a dramatic twist, BBC Sport senior correspondent Ian Dennis was the first to report on his personal Twitter account that Tottenham were still in the running to land the France international.

Daniel Levy’s Spurs are trying to lure Sissoko to White Hart Lane with the offer of Champions League football this season, something Everton are unable to provide.

The 44-time capped international has been linked with a number of leading European clubs this summer, but Newcastle have consistently held out for a £30million fee.

Sissoko played a key role in getting France to the Euro 2016 final during this summer’s Championships, but he has so far not made an appearance for Rafa Benitez’s side in the new campaign.

Mauricio Pochettino has already announced the signing of one French attacking midfielder on Wednesday in Georges-Kevin N’Koudou from Marseille, but the Argentine boss could be looking to bring another attacking player in to add depth to his squad.

Everton will also be keen to add another attack minded player to their squad, as Ronald Koeman looks to strengthen a squad boosted by only four senior arrivals to date this summer.

However, with Tottenham now reportedly in the lead and with the offer of Champions League football it is looking likely that Koeman is set to miss out on another target this window.

In other Tottenham transfer news, duo Luke McGee and Nathan Oduwa have joined League One side Peterborough on loan until January.
